Alternate. Alternative. 这两个词作为名词或形容词时并不总是可以互换。前者指一系列中每隔一个的那一个；后者指两种可能性中的一种。作为两者构成的一系列中的另一个，alternate可以表示"替代者"，但alternative尽管用法相似，却含有"选择"之意，而这一含义在alternate中从不出现。
